New details have emerged about alleged security threats Erica Kirk Canceled to attend Turning Point USA event.
“The specific threats were directed at her and her ability to travel to and from events,” a source exclusively revealed. US Weekly. “Her security team felt they could not protect her life.”
Kirk, 37, was scheduled to headline a University of Georgia event with the vice president JD Vance, But later quit — faced backlash from conservative commentator Candace Owens and others. Vance, meanwhile, attended the event. (Erika serves as Chairman and CEO of Turning Point USA Assassinations in September 2025 Husband and Co-Founder Charlie Kirk.)
“So you can imagine, for a mother of two who had just lost her husband, she felt like she had to take the advice of the security team,” the source said. “I think anyone would.”
The source explained that the alleged threat that led Erica to cancel the show “was not directed at the venue,” adding that “they have full confidence in the Secret Service” ensuring Vance’s “safety.”
“There is absolutely no reason to cancel the event,” the source said. “This is specifically for her participation and her ability to travel to and from the activities they care about.”
According to a source familiar with the matter, Turning Point USA is taking “safety” seriously after Charlie’s death and said this includes “protecting the children who participate in these events.” The source explained that this “really speaks to the fact that it had nothing to do with the incident itself and that’s why the night continued.”
“This shouldn’t come as a surprise to people: A woman who is essentially accused of murdering her husband, the man she loved all over the world, is facing death threats,” the source said. “That’s what happened. It’s clear that there was a concerted effort here, and I don’t think it should be surprising to anyone that we ended up in a situation where it was unsafe for her to go to an event where she was being widely publicized and speaking at because her life was at risk.”
On Thursday, April 16, CBS News quoted Secret Service sources as saying that the agency is Not aware of any “credible threats” Erica or event. The outlet reported that Vance was informed that the event was safe and chose to continue attending. Secret Service sources clarified that Erica and her team may have received “hostile or threatening messages” via social media that local security deemed unactionable.
A spokesman for Turning Point USA explained us Threats related to Erica “exceeding the security perimeter” led the team to “make the difficult decision to withdraw her participation.”
“Our security team continuously evaluates security considerations and this is the right decision for her safety,” the statement read. “We are grateful to law enforcement and the U.S. Secret Service for ensuring the event was safe.”
