Stuart “Stu” McLean best known for appearing in virgin river before his disappearance and death in May 2026 made headlines.
McLean was reported missing to the Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on May 18, 2026, three days after he was last seen at his home in Lions Bay, British Columbia.
Three days after McClain’s disappearance was investigated as a missing persons case, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team stepped in to assist in the search. The police operating theory is that McClain could possible murder victim.
On May 22, Canada’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced through a press release that McClain’s body found In the Lions Bay area.
Authorities have not revealed whether there are any suspects in the case or what may have happened to McClain.

Squamish RCMP began investigating McClain’s disappearance on May 18, 2026. The next day, police asked for the public’s help in locating the actor, with Lions Bay Search and Rescue leading an initial search. Two days later, it was revealed that authorities speculated McClain was a possible homicide victim.
“On May 20, IHIT deployed and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Squamish RCMP continue to work closely with IHIT and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to advance the investigation,” the release reads. “Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and through their investigative efforts discovered evidence leading investigators to believe Mr. McLean was the victim of homicide.”
