April 7, 2026, Representative John LarsonConnecticut’s 1st congressional district, Proposed 13 articles of impeachment Oppose Trump in the House.
While the articles of impeachment are unlikely to pass the House Judiciary Committee, Larson believes that Trump “broke through all demands for removal” by threatening on April 7 that Iran’s “entire civilization” would end if the Strait of Hormuz was not opened. (Trump later agreed to a temporary ceasefire with Iran, with the intervention of Pakistan.)
Impeachment calls also came from outside Washington, D.C. hollywood icon Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep Both men have publicly called for legal action against Trump if Democrats win the 2026 midterm elections, and a significant group of the president’s former supporters — including Candace Owens, Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson — also criticized his recent behavior. talking nbc news In April 2025, Plattner vowed to block the Trump administration’s conservative policies if he won a Maine Senate seat.
“I want to shut down the White House,” Plattner said. “I want us to spend the next two years hauling away every single person in the White House, every single person in all of these agencies who are acting in an illegal and unconstitutional way. They need to be hauled away by subpoenas in front of Senate committees again and again.”
He accused the government of “murder” by “dropping a bunch of bombs on ships in the Caribbean last fall” as part of Operation Southern Spear, which targeted drug traffickers in late 2025.

He also accused the Trump administration of “gross corruption” and said the president “absolutely” committed impeachable offenses.
As for whether he supports impeachment, Plattner told NBC News, “I will say this on that front, though: If we don’t have a vote in the Senate to convict, I don’t think we should waste our time on that.”
Plattner told NBC News in April 2026 that there was “a compelling case” to impeach the conservative-leaning Supreme Court justice, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. (Impeachment requires a majority vote in the House and two-thirds support in the Senate.)
“(There are) absolutely grounds for removal,” he argued.
The Maine politician has not ruled out supporting efforts to “court-pack,” or change the number of justices on the Supreme Court to achieve ideological balance.
“(I’m) definitely willing to do more, including adding more seats on the court,” Plattner said.
The oyster farmer is a lifelong resident of Maine who grew up in the coastal town of Sullivan. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2003 and served three combat tours in Iraq throughout his military career.
In April 2026, he told “The Takeout” podcast that he was discharged from the military in a “hyper-masculine, hyper-violent place.” Plattner confirmed that he and other Marines got the skull tattoo while on leave in Croatia without knowing it had Nazi symbolism. (He has since covered up the offensive tattoo.)
“Once I left and came out, (I) interacted with a lot of different people in the civilian world whose experiences were very different from my own,” he explained. “A lot of beliefs and ideas and even just language have changed significantly over time.”
Plattner Announce In January 2026, he suspended his campaign to be with his wife, Amy Gertnerfor in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment in Norway. (Plattner married Gertner, a school teacher and paid campaign consultant, in 2024.)
“The cost of this (treatment) in the United States is astronomical, $25,000 for the first try,” he explained in a campaign video.
Platner and Gertner clarified that they were seeking treatment in Norway, where a round of IVF treatment costs only $5,500.
“Graham has great sperm,” Gertner quipped in the video. “Infertility is a part of me.”
The Senate candidate noted that his and Gertner’s experience with the cost of IVF inspired him to “build power to get the things working people in this country need, like a universal health care system that provides reproductive support.”
Vermont Bernie SandersThe progressive Senate stalwart officially endorsed Plattner’s Maine campaign in August 2025 and appeared with him at rallies.
“When you listen to how we talk about organizing, when you really look at our political theory about wealth inequality, our political theory about how institutions are structured to benefit the super-rich at the expense of working people, I very much feel like I do carry on the legacy of Sen. Sanders,” Plattner told NBC News. “I very much want to see this kind of politics continue in the future. That’s why I do it.”
