Caleb Shomer He has been the lead singer of the band Beartooth for more than ten years.
In May 2026, Shomo made headlines because he Coming out as gay after relentless online speculation about his sexuality.
“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life lately and I feel the need to set the record straight so as not to further impact my loved ones. I am a proud gay man,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “This is something I’ve been unpacking and thinking about for quite some time in my life. It’s hard to navigate the feelings surrounding this subject and figure out how to deal with that fact.”
He continued, “When it comes to my art/Beartsooth, I’ve been trying to track down my deepest self on album after album. If you paid attention to the band in its early years, you’ll notice that there were 4 very self-deprecating albums about my religious upbringing, depression, self-hatred, and despair. I’m grateful for all of them, but sometimes feel embarrassed that I haven’t allowed myself to really dig out my roots for so long.”

Shomo was a member of the metalcore band Attack Attack!, which he left in 2012. He said at the time that he would be leaving the band on “good terms” and would continue making music.
At the same time leave attack attack! In 2012, Shomo opened up about the mental health issues he faced.
“I suffer from severe clinical depression and have had it for many years. As you may have heard from my speeches during the last 6 months or so of my AA touring career, I have been suicidal since middle school,” he said at that time,part. “Since I was announced as the lead singer a few years ago, I’ve struggled with an eating disorder, self-image issues, and various substance abuse and addiction issues over the past year. At 17 years old, having thousands of people tell you you’re a ‘fat person’ is not the easiest thing to deal with, I can imagine. I have a very scattered brain and just kind of growl, so deal with me because that happens all over the place.”
He continued, “I love everyone involved in AA. Great guys and very supportive. I started going into a real downward spiral mentally about a year ago. Panic attacks, breakdowns, isolating the world for weeks at a time, writing crazy depressing songs, not very fun. I have a lot of stress/demon in my life that I don’t want to face and deal with head on. As you may have guessed it doesn’t help at all with the problem.”
Shomo has been the lead singer of Beartooth since 2012 and is known for writing songs for the band while he was a member of Attack Attack!. Beartooth has released five studio albums during their tenure, with the most recent, The Surface, due out in 2023.
In March 2026, Shomo deleted his Instagram account after the band released their new single “Free”. At the time, Shomo debuted with a new look, fronting Atilla on vocals Chris Fronzak Making homophobic remarks. Fronzak apologized.
Caleb and his wife got married, Fleur Sommer2012. Hibiscus shared her support for Caleb After he publicly came out as gay in 2026.
“Our nearly 14 years of marriage have been wonderful, filled with fun, adventure, and love. No one will understand our marriage like we do. No one can truly know the depth of love between two people unless they are the people they are,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I miss it and my husband so much already. Our story is amazing. It’s done now.”
She added, “I hope that anyone in the world who is going through this can find hope and courage, and I hope that fans can continue to support Caleb. For now I will continue to focus on the things that I can control and continue to live my life and work towards the goals that I want to achieve. If I keep saying hello to as many dogs as possible along the way, then I believe things will slowly get better, day by day, bit by bit, bird by bird.”
