President, First Lady, Pregnant White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt and other officials were rushed out of a ballroom at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., when Gunfire breaks out Saturday, April 25th.
A Secret Service agent was shot during the exchange of gunfire and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A 31-year-old California resident was detained and faces multiple charges after he breached a security checkpoint, law enforcement officials in Washington, D.C., confirmed.
During a White House press briefing, Donald said he was “grateful for the courage of law enforcement officers” at the Washington Hilton Hotel for their quick response.
“It was very unexpected, but incredible action by the Secret Service and law enforcement, and this was an event dedicated to free speech, as it should be, and to some extent it was… because in fact they just united us – a completely united room,” Trump told reporters.

As of press time, the investigation is still ongoing, and the Secret Service has confirmed that the suspect and agents exchanged gunfire near the “Main Magnetometer” at the Washington Hilton Hotel.
The President, First Lady and other government officials – including the Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.Secretary of State Marco Rubio and vice president JD Vance — were all evacuated by the Secret Service.

“A man stormed a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons and he was shot down by some very brave Secret Service members,” the president confirmed.
Law enforcement officials in Washington, D.C., confirmed that a 31-year-old Californian was in custody following a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. As of press time, the suspect’s motive and condition were unknown.
The suspect was charged with two counts of using a firearm and one count of assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.

During his own White House press conference, Donald called the suspect “a very sick man.”
The president confirmed that a Secret Service agent was shot and killed during the altercation. The bullet struck the agent’s ballistic vest and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the Secret Service.
“(He) was obviously saved by wearing a really good bulletproof vest. The vest did the job,” Donald told reporters. “I just spoke to the officer and he was doing great, in good health and in good spirits, and I told him that we love him and respect him and that he’s a very proud man and he’s very proud of his job as a Secret Service agent.”
The president initially broke his silence in a statement released by the Truth Society, expressing his desire for the dinner to go ahead.
“The Washington, D.C., Secret Service and law enforcement had an outstanding night. They acted quickly and bravely,” Donald wrote. “The shooter has been apprehended and I recommend that we ‘let the show go on,’ however, we will be fully guided by law enforcement. They will make a decision very soon. Regardless of that decision, tonight’s circumstances will be very different than planned and we will simply have to do it again.”
White House Correspondents Chairman Weijia Jiang Shortly afterwards, he spoke in the ballroom and confirmed that the dinner would be rescheduled within 30 days at Donald’s request.
“Law enforcement asked us to leave the scene. … (The president) wanted to emphasize that no one was injured. The Cabinet and the first lady, everyone is safe,” she explained. “I said earlier this evening that journalism is a public service because when an emergency arises, we run toward the crisis, not away from it.”
Jiang continued, “I saw the reports from all of you, and this is what we did. Thank God that everyone is safe, and thank you for coming together tonight.”

(In July 2024, the president survived being shot in the ear at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In September 2024, another suspected shooter was arrested at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.)
“When you look at our great president, this doesn’t happen to people who do nothing,” he told the outlet.
