Utah Commissioner Russell Minas Taylor and Dakota were ordered to stay 100 feet away from each other for three years.

Minas described their relationship as “dysfunctional” when he issued the order.

“It was a very toxic relationship. It was in many ways beyond what people would accept,” Minas said Thursday. “I’ve seen from the evidence since the last hearing that they seem to have an ongoing attraction to each other… You’ve got to figure out a lot of things here. You’ve got to figure out how to function as co-parents.”

“I hope you are not people who thrive only on drama and conflict,” the judge added. “You have to put your children first and protect your children from the effects of this conflict. I will keep the current order in place. I need to think more about deconservation. I have mixed feelings about this.”

Dakota was granted temporary custody of Ever in March due to domestic violence allegations between Ever and Taylor. Currently, Taylor can have supervised visits with the toddler for up to eight hours. No changes were made to the custody arrangements Thursday.

Dakota filed for a temporary protective order against Taylor in March while police conducted two investigations into domestic violence allegations involving her exes. Taylor obtained a temporary protective order against Dakota in April.

“Today’s hearing is an important step forward as the court issues a protection order requiring Taylor’s ex-partner to stay away from her,” he told us.

“Taylor was very candid with the court that she was not perfect and acknowledged her mistakes, which was in stark contrast to the way the other side presented its arguments, despite evidence and opinions from law enforcement suggesting otherwise,” Swinyard continued. “Taylor expressed solidarity with the many survivors who have gone through similar ordeals behind closed doors and shared only parts of their stories, and she remains grateful for the outpouring of support she continues to receive.
