Tulsi Gabbard After her husband resigned as director of national intelligence, abraham williamswas diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
“Today, it is with great humility and sincere appreciation that I share the following letter with President Trump,” Gabbard, 45, wrote byX Friday, May 22nd. “It has been an honor to serve the American people as Director of National Intelligence.”
Gabbard’s post included a copy of her resignation letter sent to Trump. Gabbard revealed in the letter that Williams had been diagnosed with cancer.
“My husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He will face significant challenges in the weeks and months ahead,” Gabbard wrote. “At this time, I must step back from public office, stand by his side, and fully support him through this battle.”
Gabbard and Williams tied the knot in Hawaii in 2015. (The politician has previously worked with Eduardo Tamayo From 2002 to 2006. )
“Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage—he has been steadfast throughout my deployments to East Africa on joint special operations missions, multiple political campaigns, and now in this role,” Gabbard continued. “His strength and love have sustained me through every challenge. I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this battle alone while I continue to serve in this demanding and time-consuming position.”
The politician said she was “fully committed” to “ensuring a smooth and complete transition” until her last day on June 30.
“Thank you for your understanding during this very personal and difficult time for our family,” Gabbard wrote in her letter to Trump. “I will be forever grateful to you and the American people and deeply honored to serve our country as the Director of National Intelligence.”
Trump reacted to Gabbard’s resignation online and praised her work in the administration.
“Unfortunately, after doing a great job, Tulsi Gabbard will be leaving the government on June 30,” he said via truth society on Friday. “Her wonderful husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and she rightfully wants to be with him and get him back to health as they are currently fighting an uphill battle together. I have no doubt he will be better than ever soon. Tulsi has done an incredible job and we will miss her.”
Trump announced that Aaron Lucas will serve as acting director of national intelligence following Gabbard’s departure.
