Caller ID company Truecaller has launched eSIM services for travelers. The launch comes as the company looks to strengthen its portfolio and diversify its business into a multi-billion dollar ad.
The company said its plans will range from 1 GB in 7 days to 20 GB in 30 days. Initially, the launch will make the eSIM available in 29 countries.
The list includes Italy, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Finland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, Norway, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria.
Notably, the company’s largest market, India, is not on the list. This is probably due to the strict telecom regulations in the country. At first, the world is forbidden Airalo and Holafly on concerns about fraudulent use.
Truecaller said it is working with international mobile operator Telna and telecom software provider Telness Tech to implement the eSIM platform.
Where there are other eSIM providers like Airalo, Holafly, Roamless, and NordVPN’s Saily, Truecaller thinks that its more than 500 million users will be beneficial in acquiring new users.
“The startup is different from other players in this category. They have to build their audience from scratch. We are offering eSIM services within our program that more than 500 million people already use and rely on every month,” Truecaller chief operating officer Fredrik Kjell told TechCrunch by email.
“These are established relationships, with many people who have been using Truecaller for years. This changes distribution and pricing,” said Kjell.
Kjell said that this is a move by Truecaller that makes the app more user-friendly. This comes at a critical time for the company. Last week, the company cut 70 jobs through many teams. In addition, it posted disappointing numbers for Q1 2026. Truecaller’s total sales fell 27% to 362 million SEK ($39.34 million), and advertising revenue fell 44%.
The company is leaning towards increasing subscription revenue with features like AI assistant and Family Protection. In an era of stagnant advertising revenue, additional services such as eSIM can provide new revenue streams.
As TechCrunch reported last year, the implementation of eSIM is there on the rise due to movement and interaction of the device. Investors are also interested in investing in eSIM startups. In the last 12 months, startups like Airalo, Non-traveling, Coal, eSIMOand Truly he made millions of dollars.
