Arranged in chronological order, the chairs illustrate India’s seating traditions from pre-colonial times to the contemporary era and highlight global art movements popular in the country. Their designs also open a window into the colonial invasion of India by the Dutch, Portuguese, French and British from the 16th to 19th centuries.
