Sydney Season 4 will center on Mackey and JD Chemistry

NCIS: Sydney By the end of Season 3, one case seemed to be closed and another was hanging in the balance – literally – but it was the possible romance between McGee and JD that fans were buzzing about.

WARNING: The following spoilers follow from NCIS: Sydney Season 3 Episodes 19 and 20.

In the two-part Season 3 finale, which aired on Tuesday, May 12, fans watched Agent Michelle Mackey perform (Olivia Swann) brought down The Collective leader Lee Meyers (Angus Sampson), after corrupt government official US drug czar John Callahan fled Australia with intelligence on drug traffickers.

“She made the final decision on Meyers. So I think in McGee’s world, it was a success,” Swann, 33, told reporters exclusively US Weekly The two-part conclusion that led to Meyers’ return to custody. “We do leave some suspense for what’s to come, which is always exciting.”

Swan noted that the suspense had a lot to do with Callahan escaping on a private jet after an elaborate prisoner switch — Meyers was the ex-husband of McGee and the father of her child, Ryan Brady (Ryan Panizza) – This can get confusing. Good news? McGee put his phone on the plane and jumped out with Ryan in his arms.

“I think her decision to do that was another very idiosyncratic rogue move,” Swann explained. “And I feel like it was just something that was done in the heat of the moment.”

The actress added that McGee was “so McGee” for “teasing JD” by being coy about what happened on her phone, and that the storyline “wish we could have seen that” Season 4 will premiere in 2027.

Although action comes first NCIS: SydneySwann teased the undeniable chemistry between McGee and Jim “JD” Dempsey (Todd Lasance), which was evident in the finale and will be touched upon in the next season. (At Mackey’s son Trey’s 18th birthday party, she told JD he was a “star-struck guy,” and they exchanged a cheeky look.)

“We’re really focusing more on the connections between the characters and really building those connections this season,” Swann confirmed. us. “So, it’s very much Mackey and JD-centric. You name it.”

She noted that in season three, viewers saw “a much closer relationship between the two of them,” including seeing their “trust grow” and their relationship “deepen.”

“I’m excited to see what happens in Season 4,” Swann confessed, teasing that if McGee and J.D. become a couple, they “maybe be surprised at how much their level of protection changes.”

She explained, “I think a lot of things between them are unspoken and subconscious to each other. If this turned into something more public, I think they would be surprised by the intensity and depth of the feelings.”

Swann also noted the dynamic between teammate Evie Cooper (Feng Nakl) and Travis “Trigger” Riggs (Claude Jabour) will become a major plot point next season, as Trigger tells Evie — and no one else — that he’s accepted another job, opening up the possibility of a budding romance.

“It will be interesting to learn more about Evie’s psychology as it relates to Trigger leaving the job and how that affects her moving forward,” Swann said, confirming that if Trigger does leave the team to become their resident bomb master, fans will “see some shifts” in Evie’s “mode of operation” and her “bravado.”

Season 4 NCIS: Sydney will premiere on CBS sometime in 2027 as part of the network’s midseason lineup.
