Spotify now lets you ‘record’ moments from your favorite podcast

It’s time to share your favorite moments from the podcast, and introduction of Spotify’s new Podcast series, out Wednesday.

In this app, the new scissors icon in the “Now Playing” view allows you to cut a particular part of interest from the podcast you are listening to, and share it more widely with your audience on social media or with friends, colleagues, or anyone else.

After cutting, you will be able to reduce the portion of the voice and preview it to hear it again before sharing it in public. You’ll then click the share button, which gives you a choice of different ways to share the podcast, including a link to the entire episode, title, timestamp, or, now, a clip.

For those in the tech industry, the addition is timely, as tech and AI managers often eschew traditional interviews in favor of sitting down with podcasters to expand their reach and, in some cases, avoid tough questions. This means that there are now a lot of stories coming out on podcasts, and there just isn’t enough time to cover them all. This will make the main parts of the interview easier to find the audience.

Spotify said it has seen traction with people saving longer episodes of podcasts called Chapters, since they launched earlier this year. Since then, Topics have been saved and added to playlists 2 million times a month.

Video sharing can also help businesses by highlighting interesting bits, encouraging users to listen to the entire program for more information.

Saved videos are stored in your Spotify Library, allowing you to watch them again at any time or add them to your podcast list.

The service is available worldwide to Spotify’s free and Premium mobile users, with availability expanding to more shows over time.
