Sources: Anthropic could raise $50B round at $900B valuation

Investor interest in Anthropic has peaked.

Artificial intelligence developer Claude AI has received several startups to raise about $50 billion in new funding at a cost of $850 billion to $900 billion, according to half a dozen people familiar with the matter. Bloomberg and Business Insider He said earlier this month that Anthropic had received a series of $800 billion in seed funding, but at the time, the company had yet to cash out.

Sources say, however, that Anthropic is finding it difficult to resist the pressure to raise more money in what could be its last private equity fund before a potential IPO. The company is expected to make a definitive decision on the round and its valuation at a board meeting in May, one of the people told TechCrunch.

The round is expected to be worth $40 billion to $50 billion, according to people familiar with the company. But investor demand seems to be high due to the rapid growth of the company, which shows no signs of slowing down. Marketers are clamoring to get into the loop. One investor who plans to make a $5 billion investment has yet to get a meeting with Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao, according to a source.

Anthropic announced this month that its annual revenue has exceeded $30 billion, which is a significant increase from about $9 billion by the end of 2025. The company’s current run rate is close to $40 billion, one of the people with knowledge of the company’s finances said.

Antrhopic declined to comment.

A large part of the investment is driven by Anthropic’s AI coding skills, mainly through the Claude Code and Cowork platforms. Many investors believe that the company is looking beyond its potential, given the huge opportunity to expand its offerings in new industries, including finance, life sciences, and health.
