“Loneliness” singer Akon Practice polyamory And had multiple wives.
“Polygamy is a natural behavior for men,” Akon, 53, said on the Tuesday, May 19 episode of “We Need to Talk” podcast. “Now, because of the rules that are set around us, we control that behavior, you could say, to appease our partners because we’re playing by the same rules, and we can say, we agree.”
He continued, “When you’re single, it’s not a problem. It’s only when you’re coupled up or you commit to someone that this is a relationship that we should maintain within the rules that you decide to maintain it.”
When asked how many wives he has, Akon (real name Aliaune Thiam) said succinctly: “I’ll leave it to your imagination.” After being asked that he has more spouses than the president of Senegal, he added, “That’s entertainment.” (Basilu Diomaye FayThe leader of the Republic of Senegal has two wives. )
While coy about his relationships, Akon did provide insight into his family life.
“I have the most amazing kids. I Got nine in total. Seven boys and two girls, the setup is all about people and understanding,” he said. “It’s communication. This is actually the answer and solution. You have to be mature enough to know, ‘If this is a situation where I’m going to park my car, I have to communicate. ‘”
Among Akon’s relationship rules is that his wife cannot have other partners, and he lists his first wife as his emergency contact “no matter what.”
“That’s why you get one, two or three. She’s the queen,” he said. “No one assaults Wife No. 1. When they do, they get kicked out of the house. … Ultimately there are layers, like, she’s the one who really sacrifices in the end. As new people (join) your family, there’s going to be new attitudes, new mindsets, new behaviors that (the first wife has to) deal with.”
During the candid conversation, Akon also rejected any criticism of his lifestyle.
“If you’re going to do this, you have to be honest,” he said. “The problem is (a) most of the critics are disingenuous because they say it’s not true, but they do it. I guarantee you, no one has ever criticized anything I’ve said, and if I went and ran a background check on them right now or hired a private investigator, I would find nothing. That’s what it is, right?”
Akon added: “I think as humans, sometimes we find ourselves judging other people rather than understanding the path they’re on because most of the time, when I speak, I’m talking about things that have to do with culture.”
Akon further claimed that polygamy benefits each wife more than it benefits the husband.
“Typically, when families come together in this way, women benefit more than men because men actually have to take care of everyone,” he said. “He must treat them all equally and their responsibility rests with him.”
