OpenAI will update its Agents SDK to help businesses create secure, efficient agents

Agentik AI is the latest buzz in the tech industry, and companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are racing to give businesses the tools they need to create these tiny agents. To do this, OpenAI has now updated its software development kit (SDK)is introducing several new features designed to help businesses build their own systems that run behind OpenAI models.

The SDK’s new capabilities include sandboxing capabilities, which allow developers to work on controlled computers. This is important because running services without any supervision can be dangerous because of their sometimes unpredictable nature.

With sandbox integration, agents can work seamlessly within a specific workspace, accessing files and code for specific tasks, while protecting the integrity of the entire system.

Similarly, the new version of the SDK also provides developers with a distributed version of the border that will allow the agents to work with files and devices approved within the work environment, the company said. (In agent development, “harness” is a term that refers to parts of an agent other than the model it’s running on. A harness often allows companies to deploy and test agents running on boundary models, which it is thought to be more sophisticated, just using all the available resources.)

“This implementation, at its core, is taking existing SDKs and making them compatible with all sandbox providers,” Karan Sharma, who works on OpenAI’s marketing team, told TechCrunch.

The hope is that this, combined with new horse tools, will allow users to “go and build long-term users using our tools and whatever tools they have,” he said.

Such “long-distance” jobs are often seen as difficult and a lot of work.

OpenAI said it will continue to expand the Agents SDK over time, but initially, the new tools and sandbox are being launched in Python first, with TypeScript support planned for a future release. The company said it is also working to bring more features, such as code mode and subagents, to Python and TypeScript.

The new Agents SDK capabilities are being offered to all customers via an API, and will use fixed pricing.
