OpenAI co-founder and President Greg Brockman is taking over the company’s leadership, according to Wired.

This appears to reinforce an existing transition, with Brockman overseeing OpenAI’s operations in the interim while AGI deployment company CEO Fidji Simo is on medical leave. Wired reported that in a staff memo, Brockman outlined plans to combine ChatGPT and its Codex software into a single experience.

“We’re putting our efforts together to focus on the future of technology, to win between consumers and businesses,” said Brockman.

This is the latest update to OpenAI since CEO Sam Altman announced a “code red” at the end of last year and said that the company should look again at what happened on ChatGPT. Since then, OpenAI has done it suspended “side quests” including the video maker Sora and OpenAI for Science, and it has been shows its ambitions to create an AI “super app”.

TechCrunch has reached out to OpenAI for comment. The company told Wired that Simo, who remains on medical leave, worked with Brockman on the changes.
