Meta has found a new source of training material for its AI models: its own employees. The company plans to use data extracted from the mouse movements and keystrokes of its employees in its quest to develop artificial intelligence.
The story, which was the first was reported by Reutersshows the lengths to which technology companies will go to find new sources of training data – the lifeblood of AI models that help software learn how to perform tasks better and answer user questions.
When contacted by TechCrunch, a Meta spokesperson issued the following statement:
“If we’re going to design assistants to help people complete everyday tasks using computers, our models need real examples of how people do it.” actually use them – things like mouse movements, button clicks, and search dropdowns. To help, we are introducing an internal tool that will capture this type of input from other programs to help us train our models. There are safeguards to protect the sensitive data, and the data stored is not used for any other purpose. ”
This may seem to reflect the privacy concerns of the AI industry, as yesterday’s corporate communications are increasingly becoming fodder for new companies. Last week it was said that old founders were being dumped for their corporate communications (from Slack archives, Jira tickets and other internal messaging platforms), which could be turned into AI fuel.
