Meta is raising the prices of its premium headphones due to the rising cost of memory chips, the company said he announced Thursday. Starting April 19, the price of the Meta Quest 3S (128GB) and Meta Quest 3S (256GB) will increase by $50 to $349.99 and $449.99, respectively. The price of Meta Quest 3 is going up by $100 to $599.99.
“We’re changing because the cost of building high-end VR equipment has skyrocketed,” Meta wrote on his blog. “Globally rising prices for critical components – especially memory chips – is affecting nearly every type of consumer electronics, including VR. In order to continue to deliver the kind of hardware, software, and support you’ve come to expect from the Quest platform, we need to adjust our pricing.”
The revised prices will also apply to the redesigned Meta Quest, the company says, but all Meta Quest devices will remain at their current prices.
Meta is the latest tech company to raise hardware prices in response to the limited RAM, joining its peers Samsung, Microsoftand Sony.
