Meta is quietly launching a new Reddit app called Forum

Meta has quietly released a new standalone Facebook Groups app called “Forum.” The company seems to be positioning the Forum as a platform that functions similarly to Reddit, program description as a “dedicated site built for in-depth discussions, real answers and areas of interest.”

The app appears to have been first spotted by a social media consultant Matt Navarra.

When you log in with your Facebook account, the Forum will open your groups, profile, and events, and allow you to create posts and usernames, just like in the Facebook app. Meta noticed that your groups are still on Facebook, and anything you share on the Forum will appear in your groups on Facebook.

Meta says Forum feeds focus on group discussions, allowing users to see “what real people are saying, not what’s happening,” making it easy to pick up where they left off.

The app has an AI-powered “Ask” tab that allows users to ask questions and receive answers generated from conversations in various groups. There is also an AI assistant manager to help administrators manage groups and content.

This is not the first time that Meta has launched an independent social media app. Back in 2014, the company released a dedicated Groups app which was intended to make it easier for users to share content in groups, but that effort was shut down in 2017.

Forum is one of two new programs from Meta in recent weeks. Last month, the social media company released a a new program called Instant which allows users to share missing photos with their Instagram friends.

Instants and Forums come amid a major effort at Meta to release more apps. The Wall Street Journal He said a few weeks ago that CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that with AI-driven power that allows the company to create more apps, the social media giant now wants to release more apps than ever before.

Referring to Meta’s chief marketing officer Chris Cox, Zuckerberg says, “So Chris and I have been talking about ‘well, can we make 50 new apps?’ Like, yeah maybe. But maybe we should start with a few before we just, like, go up and try to do all 50 at once. ”

Meta may think that consumers want more apps, but that may not be the case, especially when its new apps are often copies of other popular services. Instant, for example, borrows ideas from BeReal and Snapchat, right Meta Changeswhich was launched last year, specifically the version of ByteDance’s CapCut.
