Katie Bates Admitted she felt betrayed by her silence after recounting a “painful” childhood incident.
post via her Instagram Story On Friday, May 22, Bates, 25, shared more of her feelings as she faces ongoing family tensions stemming from undisclosed incidents in her past.
Bates said she posted to “clarify what I meant in my previous post when I said I had lost about 90 percent of my family relationships.”
“After choosing to address painful things from my childhood, I quickly learned that not everyone responds to honest and supportive healing. Some choose silence! Some choose distance. Some choose to minimize or completely avoid uncomfortable truths,” she wrote on Instagram Stories. “But when someone has been hurt repeatedly, remaining silent or keeping distance despite knowing the truth is a betrayal in itself. Neutrality does not always equal innocence, and it certainly does not equal support!”
Katie Bates has opened up about the family stress she experienced after recounting an incident from her childhood. “I get a ton of messages like this from people who really care about me, so I wanted to answer this question as honestly as possible,” Bates, 25, wrote on her Instagram Story on Wednesday, May 20.
“I was silent for a long time and I won’t do it again,” Bates concluded.

“A lot of people are confused by my decision to leave Tennessee, especially because from the outside looking in, I may have had a huge support system here. The truth is, sometimes what goes on behind the scenes is a lot more complicated and painful than what people see in public,” she wrote in an Instagram Story at the time.
She continued, “Recently, I chose to speak out about some things that happened in my childhood that I wish I had the ability to address years ago. Unfortunately, in doing so, I lost relationships with about 90% of my family. It’s been an incredibly heartbreaking and heavy experience. I won’t share the details online, but I’m also tired of pretending that everything is fine just to protect appearances.”
Bates added that she felt it was not in her best interest to remain in Tennessee, explaining that she felt it was “no longer healthy” for her.

“I choose to move on, ultimately heal and build a peaceful life for myself and my children,” she wrote. “Most importantly, I’m desperately leaning on God right now, even when things feel painful, confusing, and lonely. I don’t have all the answers right now, but I believe God can bring healing and peace even in the most difficult of situations.”
