Finally, Android and iPhone users will be able to send end-to-end encrypted text messages. On Monday, written end to end messages are starting to come out of the beta for conversations between iPhone and Android users who are using the latest version of the app.

Sending end-to-end (e2ee) messages it is an important privacy feature that keeps users from being vulnerable to hackers, governments, or the companies that create these communication platforms. When these messages are sent between devices, they are encrypted in transit, making it difficult for anyone else to read and understand the message. But until now, messages sent between iPhone and Android devices could not be saved to the end, even if iMessage is saved to initiate in 2011, and Android users can communication between them through e2ee from 2021.

For years, iOS and Android users have had a difficult time messaging – Android users can’t use Apple’s proprietary iMessage, but Apple refused to support RCS messaging, the most advanced upgrade to decades-old SMS messaging, starting in 2020. But Apple didn’t support RCS until 2023, once finally he fell as a result of controls pressure.

Google had it recommended Apple enabling RCS messaging to seamlessly communicate between their devices – this was a story that people honestly thought about”Green bubble shame,” referring to the type of message bubble that iPhone users receive from Androids.

Until Apple started supporting RCS, it was a common theme for iPhone users to find texts from their Android-using friends that could interfere with group chats, or lead to worse sharing. Now, Apple’s long-awaited e2ee support for RCS helps close the gap between green and blue bubbles.

End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging has just started rolling out in beta, so users may not have access yet. If the conversation between Google and Apple was saved, users will see a closed icon indicating that the conversation has been protected.
