FBI’s Zeeko Zaki breaks silence on fate of The OA, season 8 finale

FBI Season 8 ends on a huge cliffhanger, and one agent undergoes a huge change. So, what’s next for OA and the team?

Zaki, 36, also teased this in light of the surprising conclusion his character reaches in season nine. FBI could pose a threat to OA’s ongoing push to do good.

In Monday’s episode, the FBI team is forced to work with the team of nemesis Anna Vorpe (Claire’s Coffee), she follows her own rules while trying to retrieve a stolen bioweapon and stop an outbreak in New York City.

The team fails to find the deadly pathogen until a bus full of civilians becomes infected, forcing them to change course and try to find the same stolen antigen. OA and his partner Agent Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrine), after getting the case, Anna’s team attacked them and defeated the two OA and Maggie to pulp. Anna’s team claims they have their own “orders” and rushes to the boss with the pathogen in hand.

Back at headquarters, the entire FBI team was told “today never happened” and to never speak of it again.

The OA and Maggie are clearly uncomfortable with the idea that infected civilians are now collateral damage, especially after their new supervisor mysteriously informs the team that the bus is being “moved” to supposedly “treat” them.

The OA did not accept the director’s explanation, calling him a “disgrace” to the bureau and was fired on the spot.

“We all have our limitations, and so does OA,” Zaki exclusively says us key scenes. “It’s fun watching him hit the wall. I can’t wait to see where I go next.”

OA didn’t fight back, though – instead, he walked into the bullpen to say goodbye to ASAC Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto), who was completely shocked by the decision.

And OA’s direct boss SAC Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza), remaining silent during this dramatic moment, Agent Stewart Scola (John Boyd) started to cry at the thought of OA leaving.

Maggie stopped OA before he left the building and said, “I can’t lose you either.” her sister’s death earlier this season.

OA replies, “You’ll never lose me, Mags,” and leaves.

To make matters worse, later that night, Anna found OA in a bar. She tells him a harrowing story about why her team needs the antidote more than the exposed civilians in the city, claiming that their deaths will be “for the greater good.”

Surprisingly, Anna then offered OA a position on her task force, which she said worked “under the table” within the Department of Defense.

At the end of the episode, OA is on the phone while staring at Anna’s business card, hinting that he might be considering the position—even though evil Anna was partially responsible for his firing.

“I’m in,” when Maggie and Isabel picked up the phone The other end revealed that OA will join Anna’s commando team and seemingly help the FBI take her down once and for all.

“I like to think that was the plan all along,” Zaki told us A plot twist led to The OA being axed, but both Maggie and Isabelle knew that was going to happen. “Step one is getting fired, step two…assuming we’re lucky and things work out.”

Zaki noted that while fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that The OA costar Maggie and his boss Isabelle knew he would be going undercover with Anna’s team, the rest of his friends had no idea what was going on.

“We’re trying to protect everyone and their jobs. So what they know doesn’t hurt them,” Zaki explained. “But I can’t wait to see how they react when they find out.”

When it comes to what it will be like for The OA to be part of Anna’s off-the-books team, Zaki said his moral compass will be tested. However, the actor noted that he wanted “bloody revenge” on commando member Devon, who was responsible for beating up OA in the finale.

“In the end, he always chooses his path of justice… fingers crossed,” Zaki said of The OA, who would one day be open to running the FBI — assuming he makes it out of this twisted situation alive next season.

Zaki, who has been with the show since it premiered in 2018, told us us Season 9 will be a challenge for everyone, and he doesn’t know who Maggie will be paired with in OA’s absence.

However, his goal was to “always deepen Maggie and OA’s relationship.”

Zaki also noted that fans may see more possible love interests Agent Zara Ushruv (Pardis Salemi), who was criticized by OA earlier this season for acting a bit rebellious.

“I’m excited to see where Zara is going. She’s really fun to work with,” he joked. “I hope, in the first episode, at least we get to see OA on the other side for a while.”
