Elsbeth Seems like a joke, but another subtle dig Elon Musk A joke about erectile dysfunction.
On Thursday, April 23rd, the hit CBS series Elsbeth (Kelly Preston) is investigating a wealth therapist (Constance Wu) Suspected of using patient secrets for insider trading, became the focus of the murder investigation. Elsbeth calls Dr. Mallory Ryan (Wu) to ask for details about her personal patient log.
“This is an article from September 2024 about a patient (name has been changed) who experienced long-term erectile dysfunction after a failed SpaceX launch,” Elsbeth asked Mallory. “The power of suggestion, I guess?”
Mallory clarified that it was “a traumatic event for many internet celebrities,” but that Musk founded the company in 2002. This isn’t the first time the show has found unique ways to reference real people from past episodes Take interesting goals Jordan Hudson, Bill Belichick, leonardo dicaprio etc.
Thursday’s episode also because Kaya’s (Kara Patterson) return. since Elsbeth premiere, Preston’s main character is Join Patterson’s Kaya as she solves cases in New York City. The second season ended in May 2025, with Patterson leaving the show as a regular cast member.

The show explained Kaya’s absence, revealing she was on an undercover mission in Washington, D.C.
“I worry about when Kara needs to go and what we’re going to do without her,” Preston, 58, told Us US Weekly February only. “But what ended up happening was we brought Lindsay Mendez, B, Ethan Slater, we brought all these wonderful characters.”
This reorganization allows The show’s writers got creative.
“It brings about change, growth, conflict, loss, all those things that are rich for any character. Our show in previous seasons was also very much a romantic drama, and there was a very strong connection between these two women who were so different but found incredible common ground by working together,” Preston told us. “It’s a feeling that doesn’t go away. So the longing for that – the longing for her best friend – and the longing to be with her creates some very funny, deep and touching scene work.”
The actress continued, “When Kaya comes back, we get to see a reunion. We see them back in the same place, but they’ve both gone through things apart that can lead to a friendship. It’s fun, and the writers did a great job of not trying to fill in Kaya’s shoes, because you can’t, but instead bringing in different partners for Elsbeth and seeing her have different relationships with those people than she had with Kaya. None of that stuff does anything but make for a richer experience for the cast and the audience.”
However, the latest episode, hints that Kaya may be back Be good again.
Elsbeth Airs Thursday at 9pm ET on CBS. New episodes will air on Paramount+ the following day.
