Drone footage shows huge fires engulfing Malaysian coastal villages

A fire in the Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo has destroyed about 1,000 homes and displaced thousands of people, the fire department said.

A fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday at a water village in Sabah where people live in densely packed wooden houses on stilts.

The local police chief said 9,000 residents were affected, but no deaths or injuries had been reported.

Narrow passageways reportedly made it difficult for emergency services to reach affected areas, while strong winds fanned the fires as they raged.
