Digg is back from the dead. Again.
A few months later to initiateand restart it about Kevin Rose’s popular link sharing site closed in Marchwhen the company changed courses. It was also designed as a competition to the main site of the group Reddit, the new Digg found that it could not manage the traffic attacking its platform and did not separate itself enough from the competition to make an impression.
The founders laid off employees and said it was time to go back to the drawing board. Rose, a partner at True Ventures, returned to full-time work at the new Digg in April.
Friday evening, founder previews link to the latest update Diggwhich now looks less like a Reddit post and more like a pre-existing news aggregator.
This time, the site focuses on news – specifically, AI startup news.
In an email to beta testers, the company said the site’s goal is to “target the strongest voices in the space” and highlight stories that are “important to listen to.” AI is where they’re testing this idea, but if it’s successful, Digg will expand to include other topics.
The email warned that the site was still raw and “rough,” and was designed to give users a first impression rather than a public exposure.
On the current home page, Digg displays four main stories at the top: the most viewed story, the story that’s seeing the most discussion, the top story, and another “If you missed it” topic.
Below is a list of the day’s top stories, complete with social metrics like views, comments, likes, and saves. But the twist is that these metrics are not generated by Digg itself. Instead, Digg is ingesting content from X in real-time to find out what’s being discussed, then analyzing opinions, ranking, and identifying signals to determine what’s most important.
Like Rose wrote on X, When the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman talks about the subject of AI, it almost always initiates a process that involves a deep discussion and the publication of the topic in X. The new Digg will be able to search for the increased content.

This can be an interesting thing for data scientists, because it shows the results of X-based engagement with charts and graphs, and provides a way to analyze the signal among what, on X, is often a lot of noise. But it is not clear if there is enough value here for the daily user, beyond seeing that yes, a @In the same way A tweet can make something happen.
The site also features the top 1,000 people involved in AI, as well as top companies and top politicians who focus on AI issues.

For those who don’t have time to stay on X to follow AI news, Digg can be useful. But it is not clear why people turn to Digg regularly for their favorite program, RSS readers, or their X “For You” feed, if they want to know what is going on – mainly because at the moment there is no discussion happening on the Digg site itself.
Digg can also suffer when it goes to other issues, such as AI issues and is one of the few areas where the conversation is still happening on X. Other verticals do not have the same, especially after Musk took the place that was once known as Twitter and started the creation of competitors, which now includes direct Meta Topics. Most non-technical conversations now take place on X, or the public Internet.
However, if Digg is able to gain steam, it could be a useful source of website traffic for publishers whose businesses have been decimated. down click due to changes in Google’s algorithms and results of AI OverviewsAn AI-generated summary that Google displays in search results, often answering users’ questions before they even click through to a page.
