After being taken to a hospital in Mexico and undergoing surgery, she returned to the United States on Wednesday, May 6, for further treatment.
“She has a lot to work out and a lot to process,” Gustafson wrote on Facebook on Saturday, May 9. “She is a fighter and this is going to be an everyday thing for a while. She may regress (some days) so it’s important for all of us to continue to support her. This has been very difficult for all of us and we are all trying to overcome a lot.”
She added, “Our dad spent some time with her yesterday. Just the two of them. He held her hand, sang, talked to her. She was trying to focus, and it was a painfully touching thing. Day after day, my friends.”
