Coatue has plans to buy a data center, possibly Anthropic

Coatue, one of the biggest names in venture capital and hedge funds, has a new plan to make a big profit on AI beyond its big stake in Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, and data center companies such as Singapore’s DayOne and CoreWeave.

It has launched a project called Next Frontier to buy land near major energy sources with the goal of turning the parcels into data centers, The Wall Street Journal reports. Sources tell the WSJ that Next Frontier has already signed a deal with FluidStack, a cloud startup made a $50 billion deal building an Anthropic data center. (Coatue did not respond to a request for comment.)

Although the US already has 3,000 data centers, more than 1,500 new ones are in various stages of construction, according to Pew Researchmost of them are rural. The rage is attracting speculative ideas for real estate and investment projects from many players, starting Blackstone to Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank.
