Chicago PD chief teases if Voight will send Sally to jail

“If they did decide to do this, could this save anyone?” she quipped, noting that Sally was “devastated at the moment” and that jail time or freedom from justice could have huge ramifications.

“What’s this young woman’s life going to be like after this? How can she heal if there’s this huge secret that she’s done that she can’t repent of?” Sigen mused. “So it’s interesting. We’ll answer that question next season.”

In the finale on Wednesday, May 13, Imani and Voight hunt down Sally’s kidnapper Russ Kirby (Lucas Kaleb Rooney), kidnapped Sally when she was 6 years old, and Imani attempted to trigger memories from Sally’s childhood.

Sally seems devoted to Kirby and does not accept Imani’s claim that they are sisters until Imani brings Sally to her apartment to show her the trinkets she keeps.

While Imani works to bring Sally back to light, Voight and other intelligence agents are working to find Kirby, whom they believe stabbed and killed a prostitute named Laura after she and Sally allegedly stole their Johns while under Kirby’s control.

Everything comes to a head later in the episode, when Sally agrees to take Imani to Kirby’s hideout, but no one else can come. Imani is ambushed by Kirby and Sally is caught in the middle.

When Kirby realizes that Imani told Sally she was her sister, he yells at Sally to kill Imani “like Laura” and reveals that Sally stabbed the woman, not him.

When Sally pointed the gun at Imani, Imani knocked the gun down and tried to get Sally to submit.

Escape briefly before Voight and Kirby other members of the team Voight bursts into the building and smashes Kirby’s head in with the door, killing him in front of Sally.

Sally’s eyes dimmed as she watched the man she called her adoptive father – and later her husband – die. Before they could take her to the hospital for evaluation, Imani caught her trying to kill herself by slitting her wrists.

“I was never who you thought I was. I was always his,” Shari said in the ambulance.

While Sally did survive, her life was forever changed – because of Kirby, and because she was a killer. However, Voight only told Imani that he knew the truth about Sally stabbing Laura.

Now that she’s done that, it’s become “tricky” for Imani and her job.

Meanwhile, Sigen teased that the story of Sally, her and Imani sisters isn’t quite over yet, and there are still many layers to uncover.

“Part of her is that six-year-old child. Whether she remembers it or not, it lives in her and her sister lives in her,” Sigan said of Sally. “The other part of her that was raised by this man and abused by this man exists within her as well. … I think those two things are in conflict with each other.”

The showrunner noted that there’s “a lot” to play with next season, including finding out who Sally is, “without those two things.”

“Now that he’s gone and her sister is a grown woman, who is she? Who are they (now)?” Sigan told us. “I think it’s a very interesting question and we certainly have a lot of room to explore.”
