ChatGPT finally offers a $100/month Pro plan

OpenAI announced on Thursday something that power users have been asking for forever: a $100/month plan. Until now, plans were at a price: free ((which includes advertising)$8/month Basic plan (which includes ads), $20/month Plus plan (free), then up to $200 Pro plan (also free).

It’s OpenAI price plan page currently does not list the $200/month plan at all. However, this upper part is still available, OpenAI confirmed to TechCrunch.

The model maker says Plus (which remains $20/month) and the new $100 Pro version are designed to support the day-to-day use of Codex’s ChatGPT tool. The $100 Pro plan will offer 5 more Codex than the Plus plan.

OpenAI makes no bones that part of the new pricing is to challenge Anthropic, which has had a $100/month option for Claude.

“The new $100 Pro Tier is designed to provide developers with more coding money, especially during high-performance workloads where margins are most needed. Compared to Claude Code, Codex offers more coding per dollar on paid tiers, the difference being more apparent in code usage,” an OpenAI spokesperson tells TechCrunch.

One thing to know: OpenAI offers the highest limit of Codex on the plan of $ 100 until May 31. So everyone who tries a new part, is very angry with the notes and does not get a warning of the price: Warn that such things will not end.

There are no plans that offer unlimited services. The $200 plan, however, offers a margin 20× higher than Plus. The model maker promises in its FAQ that this is enough to support “your most important tasks continuously, even for similar projects.” All Pro plans offer the same features. The main difference is the dose limit, the company says.

The spokesperson added that more than 3 million people worldwide are using Codex every week, “up 5x in the last three months, and usage is growing by more than 70% every month.”
