Caller ID app Truecaller hits 500 million monthly users

Sweden-based caller ID app Truecaller said on Tuesday that it has reached the milestone of 500 million monthly users on its platform. The company said it also crossed 150 million users outside India, its biggest market with more than 350 million monthly users.

The company said it will add 50 million users in 2025, and users have doubled in the past five years. In April 2025, Truecaller said this had more than 450 million users. The company also saw more than 4 million people sign up for its paid plans.

“More and more people need help managing spam, fraud, and unwanted communications every day,” Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said in a statement. “Reaching 500 million users reflects the scale of these needs, and the trust that people place in Truecaller to facilitate better communication.”

“Our commitment is to continue to strengthen Truecaller with smart technology and new capabilities that protect users before, during, and after every call or message. Ultimately, our goal is to create a safe and reliable communication system for everyone. Now we are looking at the next risk: 1 billion users,” he added.

Truecaller has been trying to expand its services beyond caller ID over the past few years. The company recently introduced a feature that would allow one person to sit administrator and complete the call on behalf of their family users group to prevent fraud. The company has also been trying to use AI to try and answer calls.

Truecaller said TechCrunch last month It is also testing the use of AI to identify intercepted calls when certain fraud-related terms are detected, such as “digital arrest” – a technique in which criminals pose as law enforcement officers to obtain information or money from the recipients of calls.

In India, the company is facing challenges from this country Calling Name Display (CNAP), which displays the caller’s name as registered with their telephone network.
