billy ray cyrus is explaining why he has performed or worked for both Republican and Democratic presidents.
“My dad was a Democrat who served in the Kentucky Legislature for over 20 years. But my dad always said, ‘When the president asks you to do something, you do it, son,'” Cyrus, 64, told CNN sky news In an interview on Tuesday, April 14. “So I’ve had Democratic presidents and Republican presidents. Have worked with bill clintonwith the President (Barack) Obamagentlemen. (George W. Bush)Mr. Bush’s father (George H.W. Bush) and mr. (Donald Trump“.
He continued, “Being president is a hard job. I pray for our country. I pray for our president, and I pray for our world.”
Cyrus made headlines in 2025 when he headlined Liberty Ball One of the celebration parties To commemorate Trump’s re-election. After encountering technical difficulties, Cyrus ended his set with an acoustic rendition of the 1992 song “Achy Breaky Heart.”
“Check? Is anyone awake? Do you want me to sing more, or do you want me to get off the stage?” he said on the air. “In life, when you encounter technical difficulties, you have to keep going. Or as President Trump said, ‘You have to fight.'”
A day after the show, Cyrus defended her decision to attend the event.
“Whether my microphone, guitar and monitors were working or not, I would not miss the honor of playing in this competition,” he said in a statement to People at the time. “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me. I went to a dance last night at the Liberty Ball.”
He added, “What I’ve learned over the years is that when a producer says ‘Here you go,’ even if the equipment is broken, you’re going to entertain people. I’m here for the people and we have a lot of fun. That’s called rock ‘n’ roll!!!”
Cyrus wasn’t the only performer at the inauguration, CAri Underwood/Christopher Macchio/Lee Greenwood/Jason Aldean/Gavin DeGrom/Rascal Flatts/Parker McCollum/Kid RockThe Village People and the Liberty University Praise Choir also performed on stage.
“This is the most interesting part Free kick! If you didn’t see it…you had to be there,” Cyrus wrote via Instagram at the time, sharing a clip of Fox News broadcasting the event and referencing his song “Achy Breaky Heart,” adding, “‘I just don’t think you get it. ‘”
