BBC joins medics on duty in Lebanon after Israeli airstrikes

BBC Middle East correspondent Hugo Bachega is on duty with paramedics in Nabatiyah, Lebanon, a once vibrant but now abandoned city.

In Lebanon, one in five people has been forced from their homes since fighting resumed in March.

In a destroyed ambulance station, a paramedic showed how a colleague was killed by an Israeli attack while he was speaking to his wife on the phone.

Israel says Hezbollah is using some ambulances and medical facilities in Lebanon, but medics say there is no evidence to support that claim.

Elsewhere, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said troops killed more than 20 Hezbollah fighters on Sunday in a hospital compound in Bint Jbeil, the scene of fierce fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.

Lebanon’s health ministry denied the claims, accusing Israel of targeting civilians and medical facilities.
