VCs like to chase the hottest startups, but startups don’t tend to sell a lot of shares. So is Anthropic, sources told Bloomberg.
VCs have been giving OpenAI’s competition seed funding that would value the company at $800 billion or more — roughly matching, or exceeding, its competition. In February, OpenAI has closed a record $110 billion investment a round that yielded $852 billion after investment. A few weeks earlier, Anthropic announced a round of $ 30 billion (which, in another case, would have been a record breaker), at a cost of $ 380 billion.
But so far, Anthropic hasn’t been impressed with the VC’s recent offers, Bloomberg reports. Yes, this can change. Anthropic has its big money to be considered, even if it wasn’t sign agreements more strongly like OpenAI.
Designer Claude has in recent months, for example, provided $50 billion to build its data center, $30 billion to spend Microsoft’s cloud, and it makes billions a year on AWS. At some point, it may need money, especially if it can raise it well, perhaps more than double its original value.
However, investors he sees the rise of the Anthropic economy – says $30 billion by the end of March, up from $9 billion by the end of 2025 – and says, “Fair.” Marketers are so thirsty for Anthropic shares that demand has grown almost unsatisfied on secondary markets. So with a little nudge from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, his company can earn money that can beat the cost of its competitors.
Anthropic declined to comment to Bloomberg and did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
