Zohran Mamdani sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim mayor

Democratic politician Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim mayor.

The city ushered in the New Year as New York Attorney General Letitia James presided over his inauguration at midnight.

Mamdani’s wife, artist Rama Duwaji, held a copy of the Quran as Mamdani was sworn in.
