Two Texas women have been arrested for allegedly disguising a drone as a bird and trying to fly contraband into a federal prison in Grant Parish.
Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office said Melanie Jean Worthington and Cassie Marie Cole They used drones to fly plastic crow decoys filled with contraband, according to one official. Facebook post Shared by departments.
According to police, the two women claimed they were paid $40,000 to smuggle the items into the jail. However, it is unclear whether they told authorities who paid them or why they were taking on the work.
Officials said the plastic crows were allegedly filled with drugs, cellphones and tobacco, the statement said.

Worthington, 38, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and bringing contraband into a penal institution.
Meanwhile, Cole, 41, was arrested for possession of synthetic marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, bringing contraband into a criminal institution and outstanding warrants from a previous arrest. It’s unclear what incident prompted the outstanding search warrant.
It was unclear whether Worthington or Cole had entered a plea or retained legal representation following their arrests.

Believe it or not, the recent arrests of Worthington and Cole are the ninth and 10th arrests of suspects since early 2026 trying to smuggle contraband into the Grant Parish federal prison. kalb. Reflecting on the crime, Grant Parish Sheriff Steven McCain reportedly told reporters that the crime was “pretty creative” but “didn’t work.” Louisiana Broadcasting Network.
McCain went on to say that when authorities tracked down Worthington and Cole, they were found in possession of plastic crows linked to the crime.

“What a great idea they came up with. But there’s so much money involved that people are willing to keep taking risks and not get caught,” he said.
After the police department shared a post about the arrest, several people took to the comments section of the Facebook post to weigh in on the situation. “Do we fly birds now? Haha maybe they should try armadillos!” one person wrote while teasing the plan, while another jokingly asked: “My only question is, is that a real bird?”
The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
