“I also have to say thank you because I know there are several fundraisers going on for us,” Melissa wrote via her Instagram Story on Saturday, December 27. Tom Carlton and their families. “We were asked last time if we would set one up but we said no because (we) didn’t need the help.”
Melissa and Tom’s daughter Abigail died in April 2024 at the age of 9. The following year, their youngest daughter, Molly died on Thursday, December 25, After developing undisclosed health issues.
“This time, however, is completely different, with many different costs, complexities and unknowns,” Melissa wrote on Saturday. “So it was overwhelming to experience the kindness. The people were just amazing.”
Melissa and Tom also share children lily and harryan “official diagnosis” on the cause of Molly’s death has not yet been received.
“I’ve been hesitant to share a medical update because we’re still no formal diagnosis“, the influencer wrote via Instagram earlier Saturday. “I do feel it’s important for people to know that this time we have some answers. Doctors believe Molly has a genetic heart condition and suspect Abby may have the same condition. I share this because I believe this can be vital information for families who have experienced a SUDC (unexpected death of a child). “
Melissa explained that Molly’s doctors came to the conclusion after the child “was able to be monitored in the hospital.”
“We couldn’t do that with Abby. I’ve never been satisfied with the answers we gave her,” Melissa added Saturday. “But we are told that in this case, even a mild illness could trigger a sudden cardiac event.”
Before Molly’s death, Melissa noted that she and Tom “witnessed a lot of little miracles” during her brief hospital stay.

The Pediatric Trauma Center was only 15 minutes away from where we were,” she wrote. “We were in the best position and everything was set up for the best conditions and the best outcome. Her little body fought hard. But we were told that in most cases, this type of cardiac event is not survivable. I’m hopeful that we will have more answers soon and that more genetic investigations will be conducted for our family, and now we may have a clearer path to explore.”
Melissa and Tom announced Molly’s passing on Friday, December 26, noting that they were “shocked” by Molly’s sudden illness.
“We are devastated. In disbelief. Confused and shocked. We are exhausted and in shock after a day filled with trauma and heartbreak,” the mother of four wrote at the time. “I feel numb. I can’t accept that this is real yet. I’m not ready for this pain… I’m scared for our lives now. I’m heartbroken for our children.”
