Why India’s Supreme Court ruling on the 2018 Flipkart sale case has investors rattled


Delhi changed tax rules in 2016 so that gains from the sale of Indian shares are taxable even under treaties. However, investments made before April 1, 2017 are exempt. Tiger Global said its investment in Flipkart predated the change and therefore qualified for the exemption.
