serena williams Her plans to return to professional tennis have not yet been confirmed, but the 23-time Grand Slam champion has taken a step in that direction.
Williams, 44, caught the attention of fans on Tuesday, December 2, when Competitor Reports say she has re-entered the sport’s internationally registered test pool. Her name appears on the pool’s roster, which was last updated on Oct. 6, the outlet reported.
An ITIA spokesperson said: “She has informed us that she wishes to be reinstated into the testing pool” Adrian Bassett Tell Competitor in a text message Tuesday. “I don’t know if that means she’s coming back or just giving herself a choice. All I can say is that she’s back in the pool and therefore affected by her whereabouts.”

She did not say at the time that she was retiring, but announced plans to “step away” from tennis.
The international registered test pool consists of 100 top men’s and women’s athletes as well as those looking to return to tennis after the hiatus. Players in the pool must provide their whereabouts at specific times each day, and anyone who re-enters the pool must remain in the pool for a full six months before participating in a tournament.

“Serena first sought recovery last August, just weeks before this year’s U.S. Open, with whom she may play doubles in New York elder sister, Venus,” he wrote bounce Tuesday. “But officially retired players are not allowed to make a spontaneous comeback within a short period of time.”
While the exact date for Serena’s return to competition is unknown, she will be able to return to competition sometime in the spring of 2026.
News came a day later Porter Magazine Published an interview with Serena in which she admitted that she was having a hard time adjusting to life in retirement.
“No matter how you prepare for retirement, especially doing something at such a high level every day, it’s difficult,” she said. “I definitely tried my best to prepare myself, but it was still a little difficult.”
Over the past three years, Serena has managed to keep herself busy. In addition to countless business opportunities, she is daughter of olympia8 years old and Adira 2 years old, she lives with her husband, Alexis Ohanian.
“With Olympia, I didn’t leave her until she was five years old! That might be a bit extreme. And it’s not recommended!” she said. “But I always wanted to be a mom.”
“I want to be with my family. I go home and cook every night. I’m home 29 nights a month,” she added. “Sometimes I’ll fly to New York, do what I need to do, fly back and get home in time for dinner.”
