Patterson clarified his thoughts on the exit in a lengthy statement.
“It’s unfortunate that there are now suggestions that they have moved on from me/Captain Sully when the complete opposite is true and those who have spoken out are fully aware of this fact but choose to say otherwise,” he wrote via Instagram in March 2026. “I didn’t intend to make any statements, but fans of the books and series deserve to know the truth as I have always respected those who support the industry by watching and loving these characters, we are so bad.” Being able to portray and bring this to life is a blessing and a blessing. “
Patterson stands by his decision to break his silence.
“I really loved Sully and fought for his voice and character. The richness and depth of Sully, who fans of the books know and love, is layered and interesting,” he added.
The statement concluded: “Fans should not think that the incarnation of this character, me, is disrespectful not only of the show but of them. In the end, we are all fans of these characters and stories, and I will always support and defend the truth.”
