“It would be painful if I wasn’t so absolutely excited for Anne[Hathaway]and the crew, and myself excited for the sequel. I’m a fan of the movie, so I’m looking forward to seeing the sequel as well,” he exclusively told us. “So, yeah, I mean, obviously, I’m disappointed (not coming back), but you know, I can’t be a part of everything, you know?”
He added, “I mean, Andy was getting promoted, and, you know, I get it. According to some people, Nate was the devil.”
Grenier joked that while he won’t be on screen, “I hope they at least invite me to the premiere, come on!”

“When the whole thing (about Nate being the ‘real villain’ in the movie) first came up, I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I didn’t get it. Maybe it’s because I’m immature as a man, like maybe Nate needs to grow up a little bit,” the actor told entertainment weekly then. “I was just as immature as he was at the time, so I couldn’t see his flaws, but, after reflecting and thinking about it online, I can see the truth from that perspective. Nate hasn’t grown up yet, but Andy has… she needs more from life, and she’s getting there.”
While Nate did provide some necessary grounding for Andy, who eventually wanted to be a reporter, fans quickly turned against the character because he was unhappy with his girlfriend working so hard for Miranda.
“He couldn’t support her in the way she needed to because he was a fragile, damaged boy,” Grenier said. “On behalf of all countries: Come on! Come on!”
Hathaway, Streep and Blunt will all return for the latest version, which will be released in May 2026, while entertainment weekly It was reported in June 2025 that Grenier would not return.
