Who was the woman killed by ICE in Minneapolis?

The woman shot to death by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who had just moved to the city.

She is an award-winning poet and amateur guitarist, and city leaders say she serves as a legal observer of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities.

But the Trump administration called her a “domestic terrorist.”

Goode’s death sparked protests across the country, with many holding signs reading “Justice for Renee.”

Goode is a U.S. citizen originally from Colorado Springs who moved to Minneapolis from Kansas City last year.

She hosted a podcast with her second husband, Tim Macklin, who died in 2023, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported. McLean’s father told the newspaper that they had a son, now six years old.

She has two other children with her first husband, who declined to give his name in interviews with US media. He said Goode was not an activist and was a devout Christian who traveled to Northern Ireland on youth missions in her youth.

Several state leaders said Goode was at the scene of the ICE raid in south Minneapolis as a legal observer and a volunteer who monitors police and security forces at protests and actions.

Goode’s mother told the Minnesota Star Tribune that her daughter “was not involved in anything that involved challenging ICE agents.”

But White House officials, including the president, said Goode was not just observing but interfering with officials’ work.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Goode spent the entire day “stalking and impeding their work,” “blocking them” with her car and “yelling at them.”

Noem told reporters that Good “armed her vehicle” and then tried to run over one of the officers “in an attempt to kill or cause bodily harm to the agent, which is an act of domestic terrorism.”

Noem said the ICE agent feared for his life and “fired his weapon in defense.”

This statement was supported by Trump, who wrote on “Truth Social” that “the woman driving was very disorderly, obstructive and resistant.”

He called her a “professional agitator” who “violently, deliberately and viciously” ran over an ICE officer.

But the city’s mayor said the agent who shot Goode acted recklessly.

“Having watched the video myself, I want to tell you straight up: That’s bullshit,” Jacob Frey said. “This was a reckless use of power by an agent that resulted in someone dying, someone being killed.”
