Banks also recalled how she did America’s Next Top ModelOf the show, which ran from 2003 to 2018, she said: “I wanted to fight the fashion industry. One day the idea popped into my head. What if I created a show that allowed you to see what it takes to be a model? A show that wasn’t all white, wasn’t all skinny, just showed all the differences and all the different types of beauty. I had a feeling I was going to change the beauty world.”

Shannon Stewart (First Cycle)
Season 1 runner-up recalled her battle with an eating disorder before and during the show. She thanked Tyra Banks for speaking out about her weight on the show and sent flowers to Shannon Stewart when she didn’t win. Stewart eventually left the modeling world and dedicated herself to her faith.
Ebony Hayes (First Cycle)
The first-season contestant expressed frustration with Tyra Banks, who “forgot about the danger” after former host Tyra Banks mentioned her sexuality on screen. Despite the many obstacles Ebony Hayes faced as a black woman, she was still happy with how her personal life was portrayed.
Ebony did not feel “protected” and was “completely disappointed” with her performance. She claimed Banks barely spoke to her on the show, save for a few pointed comments, at which point she realized the host wasn’t going to help her.
The aspiring actress ultimately said that Banks “disappointed her greatly.”
Gisele Samson (first cycle)
For Giselle Samson, she was shocked when America’s Next Top Model wasn’t what she imagined. She said she felt she was pushed by the production to start the show and her self-esteem was hurt after seeing Tyra Banks and others discuss her weight on the show.
Samson left modeling to become a real estate agent, after which she joined a theater troupe.
Sandy Sullivan (Second round)

She expressed disappointment with Tyra Banks and producers before confirming she was leaving the modeling industry. Sullivan currently works with animals.
Bray Skulak (Cycle 5)
Bre Scullark, who now works with violent offenders to help them recover, called out the show’s lack of support for black women, contestants struggling with eating disorders and more.
Danielle Evans (Cycle 6)
Danielle Evans stayed on her season for an especially long time because she agreed to have a gap in her teeth removed despite expressing doubts about the medical procedure. She won her season but was never successful due to the stigma that came with appearing as a model. America’s Next Top Model.
Danielle claimed she had a conversation with Tyra Banks, who admitted she knew the contestants wouldn’t make it in the industry. The former model, who is no longer in the industry, said Tyra “had good intentions in the beginning” but “the damn thing disappeared”.
Joanne Dodds (Cycle 6)
Among the doctors, Joanie Dodds recalls having her teeth removed for the challenge. She agreed to the surgery but claimed she did not realize the extent of the consequences, which included “many orthodontic issues” that “were never addressed.”
Dodds admits she’d love to do it America’s Next Top Model But in a different way. She then found success on a home improvement show, which led to her own carpentry business.
Dion Walters (Cycle 8)
during her seasonDionne Walters must take on a photo challenge in which she poses as a victim of gun violence. The producers knew that Dionne’s mother was shot and paralyzed in real life, and she didn’t think it was a coincidence.
Dionne tried several times to make it in the modeling industry, but without success. She also revealed that “no one contacted her” after being eliminated. Dionne is now a small business owner and real estate agent.
Whitney Thompson (10th round)
Whitney Thompson is the show’s first plus-size winner, but that comes with an uncomfortable feeling. She recalls being given clothes that didn’t fit her and having to go to work. While Whitney acknowledged that the show was “not quite right for the times,” it was “also a reflection of the times.” The ice cream parlor owner thanked Tyra Banks for opening the door for her to join the show.
Keenyah Hill (4th cycle)
Keenia Hill recalled how her entire narrative on the show revolved around her weight. She said it made her feel dirty to see her diet and the conversations surrounding her appearance modified in a damaging way. Hill also pointed to a challenge in which a male model “aggressively” attacked and touched her, but her attempts to gain protection were met with humiliation.
Tyra Banks defended the reaction, saying she was giving the best advice she could at the time. Banks admitted Hill deserved more. Hill revealed in her confessional that she works as a posture coach, helping aspiring models.
