What it’s like inside the courtroom at Maduro’s hearing

Former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro appeared in court in New York for the first time since being captured by US forces in Caracas on January 3.

Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, appeared before the judge in handcuffs and shackles. They will stand trial on charges including narco-terrorism. Both men entered not guilty pleas.

The BBC’s Madeline Halpert was in the courtroom as the former president addressed the judges.
