Vince Gill Added a new honor to his list CMA Awards 2025.
The 68-year-old singer received willie nelson Received Lifetime Achievement Award during the period Wednesday, November 19, Ceremony Held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The honor began with a tribute performance of Gill’s song “When I Call Your Name.” Brandi Carlile and Patty Lovelace. “His guitar playing was great. His songwriting was great. His singing was great,” said Street, 73. “He sang higher than anyone I knew. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was a tremendous talent. Oh, yeah, he played with the Eagles. I could have said that. There’s no one more deserving of this great honor, named after a true icon, Willie Nelson.”
Then Gill took the stage and started with a joke about his aforementioned high-pitched singing voice. “It’s not lost on me that they have to have the girls come out and sing for me tonight,” he quipped. “No boy could climb that high.”
The Grammy winner marveled at the “amazing” talents of other previous Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, then noted that he and Nelson, 92, have been friends for 50 years. Then he shouted to his children and wife: amy grantcalling her “the kindest soul I know.”
“So, Willie, if you’re listening, at 92 years old, you’re still inspiring us today,” Gill said to Nelson at the end of his speech.
according to a Press release Starting earlier this month, the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award is given to “an iconic artist who has achieved the highest level of recognition in country music.”
“The award honors those who have achieved national and international recognition and status through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, streaming numbers, record sales and public representation at the highest levels,” the press release continued. “Over the years, the artist receiving the award has positively impacted and contributed to the growth of the genre, proving to have had an unprecedented and historic impact on fans and the industry.”
Past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Nielsen; Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, dolly parton, Kris Kristofferson, Charlie’s Pride, Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson and george strait.
“Vince embodies the very essence of country music,” said the CMA CEO. Sarah Trahern said in a press release earlier this month. “He was a true trailblazer who gave back to the community, honored the roots of our genre and, even now, continues to share his talents with fans around the world. As a Country Music Hall of Fame member, 18-time CMA Award winner and former 12-time CMA Awards host, he remains a dynamic force in our industry, and we are honored to celebrate an artist whose influence is so deeply woven into our form.”
Gill’s previous CMA awards include two Entertainer of the Year, two Album of the Year, five Male Vocalist of the Year, four Song of the Year awards (more than any other artist in CMA history), four Song of the Year, one Single of the Year and four Vocal Event of the Year awards. He also received the CMA Owen Waugh Award for Excellence in 2014, the CMA Foundation Humanitarian Award in 2017, and is a four-time recipient of the CMA Triple Award.
In addition to her 18 CMA trophies, Gill has hosted more award shows than anyone else, hosting the show from 1992 to 2003.
Gill broke through in country music in 1990 with his hit song “When I Call Your Name.” He has since released 20 albums, sold more than 30 million records and had 45 chart-topping singles. Gill is currently releasing a series of EPs to celebrate 50 years of his performance – with the theme 50 years away from home ——In one year’s time.
