Video shows the moment gunfire rang out for former Kashmir chief minister

CCTV footage from a wedding in the Indian-administered Kashmir city of Jammu shows a man shooting at former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah. Abdullah escaped uninjured after the attack on Wednesday night.

Police told the BBC that the suspect, Kamal Singh Jamwal, has been detained and the matter is under investigation.

Abdullah is a five-time chief minister of Indian-administered Kashmir and the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, a prominent regional party.

His son and current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared this in a social media post:

“Allah is merciful. My father’s razor was very close. Details are sketchy at the moment, but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get into close range and fire.”

He also questioned how anyone could be so close to his father, who holds a Z+ security classification – one of the highest in the country.
