Venezuela’s political transition after Maduro steps down

After former President Maduro stepped down on January 3, 2026, Venezuela entered a political transition period. The United States and Venezuela agreed to restore diplomatic and consular relations, and both parties committed to working together to promote stability, support economic recovery, and advance political reconciliation.

Venezuelans at home, however, are still protesting the return of Nicolás Maduro.
