Users are leaving Claude’s ChatGPT. Here’s how to change it

Many users are switching to Claude following several controversies surrounding ChatGPT and its parent company, OpenAI.

Confirmation came later Anthropicthe company behind Claude, refused to allow the Department of Defense to use its AI models for monitoring large-scale domestic or autonomous devices. In response, President Trump ordered all federal agencies to stop using Anthropic products, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. he announced plans to expose the company to supply chain risks.

A few hours later, OpenAI he announced its deal with the Pentagon, which it says includes defenses, but the deal has also sparked a major debate over privacy and the effective use of AI.

As a result, Claude has risen to the top of the free software rankings in Apple’s US App Store, beyond ChatGPT. According to Anthropic, daily signups have skyrocketed, with free users jumping more than 60% since January, and paid subscribers doubling this year.

For many users, the recent controversy has made Claude a replacement for ChatGPT. If you are thinking of making a change, this guide will help you transfer your data and close your ChatGPT account.

How to send your data from ChatGPT

Terminating ChatGPT does not mean losing digital memory. Instead of starting with a new AI assistant, you can transfer your data to Claude to get it up to speed on your needs right away.

There are several ways to do this. One place to start is Preferences. From there, you go to Personalization and find the Memory section. Select “Edit” and review your saved content, and reset anything that doesn’t reflect your preferences. Once everything is changed, copy the content you want to keep.

You can also organize things based on the main topics of your profile or ask ChatGPT to summarize your interests, topics you talk about frequently, and any tips you use.

Enter your data in Claude

Once you’ve collected your data, transferring it to Claude is easy.

Open Claude, go to Settings, then Enable, and confirm Memory is activated. (You’ll need to subscribe to a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan to unlock this.) Then, start a new conversation and use a quick phrase like, “Here are the most important points I want you to remember. Update your memory of me with these. Then add your information or summary to the conversation.

For exported chat files, do not leave raw logs. Instead, ask Claude: “Review this and summarize what I like.”

We also encourage you to take a moment to confirm with Claude that your information has been stored correctly. You can always update your preferences as they change.

Permanently delete your ChatGPT account

To completely retire from ChatGPT, simply canceling your subscription is not enough to delete your data.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Go to Settings, then Preferences, and select Memory.
  • Delete any memories or preferences.
  • To increase the guarantee, type “Erase all my memory and your data” as the last command of the chat.
  • Then go to your account management settings to delete your entire account.
