United’s mobile app now displays TSA wait times at select airports


United Airlines is to renovate its mobile apps for iOS and Android with several new features, including security wait times to give travelers a better idea of ​​when they should arrive at the airport. The move comes as a federal shutdown has left TSA checkpoints understaffed.

In the “Travel” section of the United mobile app, travelers can now view security wait times at US airports in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Users can view wait times for special transit, including regular security and TSA PreCheck, at all United customer service locations.

The program will also provide support for reserving personal information. Instead of waiting in line to speak to an agent or searching for alternatives, United’s self-service tools automatically provide travelers with rebooking options, as well as baggage tracking information and meal and hotel vouchers if applicable, if the flight is delayed or canceled.

The app also includes Apple’s “Share Item Location” feature for AirTag, allowing travelers using AirTag or another Find My network accessory to share the location with a United team of customers when their luggage is lost.

Users will also receive updates with real-time radar maps to let them know how bad weather in one part of the country could affect flights in another.
