Ukraine denies drone attack on Putin’s residence

Russian President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied Russian accusations that Ukraine carried out a drone attack on an official residence of President Vladimir Putin and accused Moscow of trying to derail peace talks.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Kiev used 91 long-range drones to launch an attack on Putin’s official residence in the Novgorod region of northwest Russia overnight.

Russia said it would now review its position in peace talks. It was unclear where Putin was at the time of the alleged attack.

Zelensky dismissed the claim as a “typical Russian lie” designed to provide an excuse for the Kremlin to continue its attacks on Ukraine.

He said Russia had previously attacked government buildings in Kiev.

Zelensky added Regarding X: “It is vital that the world cannot remain silent now. We cannot allow Russia to undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace.”

Lavrov said in a statement shared on Telegram on Monday that all 91 drones He claimed that the missile launched at Putin’s official residence was intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defense systems.

There were no reports of casualties or damage from the attack, he added.

“Russia’s negotiating position will be revised in light of the criminal Kyiv regime’s eventual degeneration and shift to a policy of state terrorism,” he said.

But he added that Russia had no intention of withdrawing from the negotiation process with the United States, Russian news agency TASS reported.

Moscow’s announcement came after the United States and Ukraine held talks in Florida on Sunday, in which Presidents Trump and Zelensky discussed a revised peace plan to end the war.

Zelensky said the United States has provided security guarantees to Ukraine for 15 years, and Trump said the agreement at this point was “close to 95 percent” complete.

Ukrainian leaders describe territorial issues and the Russian-occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant as the last unresolved issues, while there is little sign of progress on the future of Ukraine’s disputed Donbass region, which Russia wants to fully occupy.

Moscow currently controls about 75% of the Donetsk region and about 99% of the neighboring Lugansk region. The two regions are collectively known as Donbass.

Russia has previously rejected key parts of the plan being discussed.

The White House said on Monday that President Trump had a “positive call” with Vladimir Putin following talks between the United States and Ukraine.

Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Monday that Putin noted during the call that the alleged attack on his residence “happened almost immediately after a round of talks that the United States considered successful.”

Ushakhov said: “The President of the United States was shocked by this information. He was angry and said that he could not believe such a crazy behavior. It is said that this will undoubtedly affect the attitude of the United States in cooperating with Zelensky.”

The White House did not respond to requests for comment confirming the call took place.

Ushakov added that Putin had said that “reckless acts of terror” would be met with the “strongest response.”
