U.S. Marshals offer reward for missing football coach Travis Turner


U.S. Marshals Service offers reward for missing Virginia high school football coach Travis Turner.

U.S. Marshals warned Turner “may be armed” and encouraged people to “exercise caution.”

Turner, who has coached at Union High School in Stone Gap, Virginia since 2011, is 6 feet 3 inches tall, 235 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Turner was last seen disappearing into the woods behind his home in Wise, Virginia, armed with a gun, according to a statement from the Turner family’s attorney. Adrian CollinsFriday, November 28.

“On behalf of the family of Travis Turner, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has expressed concern during this difficult time,” the statement read. “The family’s last known contact with Travis occurred on or about Thursday, November 20, when he left the residence and walked in the woods with a gun. He is believed to have entered a wooded, mountainous area.”

The statement continued: “Travis’ family has been fully cooperating with law enforcement in locating Travis. Family and friends have also conducted search efforts in the surrounding woods. These efforts are limited by weather conditions and in deference to ongoing official operations.”

Turner disappeared shortly before being charged five counts of child pornography Virginia State Police announced on Nov. 21 five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 25, the Turner family attorney responded to the allegations against the football coach.

“We remain in our prayers for his safe return and for everyone affected by his disappearance,” the statement read. “We trust God to bring truth and clarification in his time. Any allegations should be resolved through the proper legal process and not through speculation or rumor.”

“We ask that the public and media demonstrate compassion, accuracy and respect the family’s privacy,” the statement continued.

In Travis’ absence, Union High School continued their undefeated season with assistant coach Bailey on the sidelines, defeating rival Ridgeview High School in the state playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 29.
