Russian authorities say a bombing in Moscow killed three people, including two police officers.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said two traffic police officers saw a “suspicious person” near a police car on the city’s Yeletskaya Street and as they approached the suspect to detain him, an explosive device detonated.
Two police officers and another officer standing nearby died from their injuries.
The explosion occurred near the site where a top Russian general was killed in a car explosion in the capital on Monday.
Lieutenant General Fanil Salvarov died after an explosive device planted under his car detonated.
Investigative committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said in a statement posted on Telegram that Moscow was investigating a “criminal case involving an attempt to kill a traffic policeman.”
Russian media named the officers as 24-year-old Ilya Klimanov and 25-year-old Maxim Gorbunov.
“There was an explosion,” Alexander, a resident who lives nearby, told Reuters.
“Just like that loud noise that car made a few days ago.”
Russia has said it suspects Ukraine was behind Monday’s explosion, but Ukraine has not yet said whether it was involved in Fanil Salvarov’s death.
It is unclear whether the two explosions are related.
Salvarov, 56, is the head of the combat training department of the armed forces.
He was the third military officer killed in a bomb attack in the Russian capital last year.
